About a thousand successful "A-list" ladies stand for equality in the workplace and greater mutual solidarity

The female population in our country is still threatened by traditional problems, namely unequal treatment in employment, exercising the right to work and career advancement. In addition, the ladies also complain about the absence of mutual solidarity, and that women are not inclined to organized action.
These are the conclusions of "A-List" - a platform that is conceived as a kind of pool that will gather women, among whom they will be the most successful in giving advice and support to others. This means that it enables women from different professions to connect in a project that deals with the position of women in modern society, with the aim of defining success criteria, establishing cooperation and identifying common problems of women in order to raise awareness about them and work together to solve them. .
The intention of the people behind the "A-list" is to determine the values that define the success of modern women, as well as who are the real positive female role models for the younger generation.
Research
An invitation to the research was sent to the addresses of 1.000 women who were purposefully selected taking into account their personal and professional achievements. In addition to qualitative individual interviews, an anonymous electronic survey of women between the ages of 28 and 65 was conducted. The research was done by Professor Kristina Brajović Car from the Faculty of Media and Communications with the help of her colleagues.
The family must not "suffer"
A significant number of respondents believe that a woman's success in Serbia is as much an advantage as it is a disadvantage ("success is rarely forgiven, especially if it is achieved by a woman"). Most of them see success as a balance between business and private life. Also, they see success as an integral life achievement, not just success in one field of life.

The ladies also pointed out that fulfillment, satisfaction and the meaning of work are more important to them than material success. However, as the "other side of success" (the worse one), they pointed out that often the woman's family suffers because of her work.
About social power
The interlocutors associate power with politics and big capital and do not see themselves in that. Therefore, instead of power, they cite individuality, independence and independent thinking as their greatest qualities. A significant number of respondents concluded that women do not behave as team players and that they are not in solidarity with other women. They consider professional success a risk factor in the relationship with their partner - they see the solution in life with someone from a similar profession.
They believe that women are not inclined to organized social activities and see this as a major shortcoming of the women they know. They also say that men are more enterprising than women in terms of solving a common problem as a team. Many point out that political affiliation is crucial when hiring and advancing in business.
Balance between work and family
The largest number of respondents said that they have good examples of successful women in their environment. Their main characteristic is that they can create a balance between different aspects of life.
According to the respondents, successful women are those who are equally and successfully dedicated to work and family. As the most important characteristics of a role model that would be a good model of behavior for today's young girls, they single out: persistence, positive energy, charisma, creativity, broad education, good organization, self-confidence, self-care...
What is bothering them?

The position of women in relation to men is still in an unenviable position, due to the "natural division of labor" ("woman in the kitchen, man at work").
The fear of being fired if they remain in a different state is recognized as a problem that every employed woman faces (while men do not have such problems). They say, the situation is still such that employers prefer to hire men, precisely for this reason.
Business, ambitious women are often considered cold and calculated, while this trait is acceptable or desirable in men. Double standards are something that every woman has to deal with - ambition and overtime work mostly refer to women, and on the other hand, it is considered that "a woman's place is in the kitchen".
An important problem they pointed out is mobbing, as well as inappropriate behavior of superior men towards women, whose rejection leads to difficulty in communication and cooperation.
What can be done - proposals for social actions
Most women believe that solving the problem of pregnancy and maternity leave is a priority. They propose to introduce flexible working hours, or at least to respect the working hours of eight hours, especially for women who have children. These measures would ensure that women do not live in constant fear of dismissal.
The respondents are in favor of equalizing the status of men and women, especially in the business sense, so that they have equal rights and the same wages. They believe that better programs should be created to support young female entrepreneurs, as well as to promote female entrepreneurship and mentoring programs.
Also, we should advocate for radical changes in society and make better treatment for women, especially for women who have become mothers.
