It no longer has the status of "forbidden", but black rice is still produced less compared to white and brown rice.

The richest in nutrients

Half a cup of cooked black rice contains about 160 calories and plenty of phytonutrients, plus it's a good source of fiber, iron, copper and protein.

Compared to other types of rice, black is the richest in antioxidants – it contains six times more antioxidants than other types of rice – and it contains more than twice the amount of fiber. In addition, black rice is significantly richer in protein: half a cup of cooked black rice contains five grams of protein.

Black rice belongs to gluten-free foods, so it is ideal for people suffering from celiac disease, and it is assumed that every seventh person in the world is sensitive to gluten. Eating black rice instead of processed grains will therefore help people with gluten sensitivity to get rid of digestive problems.

It reduces the risk of heart attack

Black rice owes its dark color to anthocyanins, i.e. strong antioxidants that dissolve in water and prevent the formation of fatty deposits in the arteries and thereby reduce the risk of heart attack. These antioxidants control cholesterol levels better than any other food ingredient, and at the same time protect against free radicals and reduce inflammatory processes in the body.

Protects eye health

Vitamin E, one of the antioxidants that this rice contains, protects eye cells from the action of free radicals, thus preventing the onset of eye diseases such as cataracts.

Improves memory Thanks to the powerful antioxidants it contains, black rice improves brain functions. Research on mice has shown that this food significantly slows down the aging of the brain. Certain groups of antioxidants, primarily anthocyanins, improve learning and memory processes.

It protects the liver

Eating black rice helps cleanse the body of toxins and prevents fatty liver. Considering that it contains useful fibers, black rice prevents constipation, flatulence and other digestive problems. The fibers from this rice bind to toxins, making it easier to expel them from the body. Thanks to that, this food is an ideal choice for all those who want to lose extra pounds.

Protects against diabetes

Black rice contains fiber that slows down the absorption of glucose, thus preventing a sudden rise in blood sugar. On the other hand, white rice contributes to the body's resistance to insulin, thereby increasing the risk of diabetes. Therefore, black rice is recommended for those who have the initial stage of diabetes, as well as for obese people.
