Saint Hildegard of Bingen bequeathed many healing natural recipes, as well as treatment instructions that she regularly used.

The first great woman to ever practice medicine, St. Hildegard of Bingen, was a German nun of a medieval convent. In addition, she was a mystic, writer, musician, but also an expert on health and nutrition of her time. We are talking about a saint with whom many stories are connected, and she is particularly interesting for her wide knowledge and activities in different areas.

Although her cookbook was never written down, many healthy recipes are known, as well as treatment instructions that she used regularly. She lived between 1098 and 1179, and even then she was known for promoting preventive medicine.

She designed many tea mixtures, medicinal preparations for various ailments, and here we bring three of her recipes for speeding up digestion, i.e. its regulation. Those recipes have been slightly adapted over the years, but their essence has been preserved from her era.

Cabbage salad

To make this salad you need to mix raw sauerkraut with chopped apples, tangerines, pineapple, cherries and beets. Then add some grated black and garlic and add half a spoonful of olive oil to each portion.

Bread and seed dish

For this recipe, you need half a kilo of bread crust, 130 grams of dates, mix almonds and pistachios and add a little sesame. Form the mixture into balls, add cinnamon and clove powder to them and eat during the day.

This dish is ideal for starting every day. You need to mix a handful of raisins, chopped almonds, sunflower seeds (which you have allowed to germinate for the previous two days) and a handful of dates. When you mix and combine everything well, shape into balls and eat during the day.
