Belgrade, May 11, 2018 - In the METRO HoReCa Center, the eleventh humanitarian action - "Magic Breakfast" was marked today. This is a project that for more than a decade has been pointing to the importance of integrating children with developmental disabilities into the wider social community, as well as the responsibility of all of us to help them in this.
The action "Magic Breakfast" lasted from April 26 to May 10, 2018, when citizens, by purchasing special packets of Villa Dobrila in METRO Cash & Carry facilities, or by paying the price of the packet to the humanitarian account of the Food Bank at Credit Agricola Bank of Serbia, were in opportunities to help the youngest. This time, 5 tons of food were collected and 3000 packets were distributed to children with developmental disabilities in the country.
The project was organized and supported by Credit Agricole banka Srbija, METRO Cash & Carry, the City of Belgrade and Banka hrane.
The "Magic Breakfast" ended with a symbolic competition and the preparation of a magical meal, in which representatives of the City of Belgrade, companies, media and the "Dragan Kovačević" school from the Old Town participated, with the traditional mascot of this humanitarian action, Villa Dobril. Prizes were awarded for the most magical, the most creative, the healthiest i the most delicious meal.
The event was attended by Deputy Mayor Andrija Mladenović, who on this occasion pointed out that five tons of food and 3.000 packets, which will be distributed evenly among schools in Serbia, represent a great result.
"This is a message that we as a society can help the people who need it the most. On the other hand, to influence our children to eat healthily, have healthy lifestyle habits and ultimately live in a better environment," Mladenović pointed out.
Undersecretary for Education and Child Protection Igor Raičević said that for the City of Belgrade, these children are not invisible.
"For us, the students of 36 schools for children with developmental disabilities, about 1.700 of them in total, are heroes who can do anything they want and constantly show us." Their professors and teachers who cheer them on every day are also heroes. It is important to us that they know that we see the phenomenal results of their joint efforts. But it is also important to show them that the City of Belgrade is there for them because Belgrade is a city for everyone," Raičević said.
Radmila Ivetić, president of the Food Bank, said on this occasion: "Over 5 tons of food, purchased according to the list provided by the schools, will be distributed to 12 schools that have a kitchen, and about 3.000 packets will be handed to students from the other 24 schools for children with disabilities in development. Action "Magic breakfast" aims to make those children's stay at school easier and more pleasant".
Also, as part of today's event, chefs from the Junior Chef Club led by Milica Aleksić, manager of the METRO HoReCa Center, additionally prepared meals for 160 students of the "Dragan Kovačević" school, which were delivered to the children on the same day.
In this way, for almost a decade, companies and citizens, with great support from institutions, have been helping children with developmental disabilities in schools across Serbia. During all these years, the "Magic Breakfast" project provided about 75 tons of food, which provided support to the natural family in improving the quality of life of minor children in the country.
