Basket.

Basket, ingredients:

  • 1 kg of soft flour
  • 1 bag of baking powder
  • 1 fresh yeast
  • 1 tablespoon of salt
  • 1 dl oil
  • 4 dl yogurt
  • 2,5 dl of milk
  • 2 whole eggs
  • 2 tablespoons of sugar
  • one egg and a little butter for coating
  • one round metal bowl. (I bought it from the Chinese, just because of this basket. It looks like some kind of imitation roaster... Cover the outside of the bowl with aluminum foil, which you lightly oil. Tuck the ends of the foil under the edges of the bowl.

Basket, preparation:

  • I made a crazy dough from the above ingredients. There is a lot of dough. Separate half and put the other back in the bag. you can use it to make pastries of various shapes, like I did. The dough is workable.
  • First I made the handle. I wove the braid, which I placed, along its entire length, across the bowl, lined with oiled foil, then I let it down a little on both sides to have straight ends, which will "lie" nicely on the basket.
  • I coated it with butter and put the bowl on a baking sheet, then into the heated oven. I baked it for a short time, it goes quickly, because the dough is thin.
  • Carefully remove it from the bowl and set it aside.
  • And then there is basket weaving. Roll out the dough with a rolling pin and cut strips of dough 1,5 cm wide and 0,5 cm thick - the second time I would make them a millimeter thinner - if I could :).
  • Turn the bowl to the side with the foil and start weaving the basket. From the center of the bowl, drop 14 strips of dough. I am ten, so the basket turned out to be less. But again, it all depends on the size of the bowl. This one is wider. and its bottom is flat.
  • In the middle of the strip, stick one to the other, and press with a jar, so that the bottom is flat when you turn the basket over. If the bowl is smaller, and the bottom is smaller, then a glass is enough.
  • Now we start arranging the transverse strips - once below and once above the strips of dough that stand upright. My bowl is shallower, so five strips were enough. Don't be afraid of anything :), knitting goes fast. I tucked the ends under the bowl. I couldn't finish it otherwise.
  • In order for the basket to have nice edges, I made a braid equal to the circumference of the bowl. Put it aside. I also coated it only with melted butter, so that it would be a contrast to the basket, which I coated with a beaten egg.
  • Place the bowl with the basket on the tray and bake at 220 degrees. She was baked quickly. Wait a minute for it to cool and carefully remove it from the bowl. Don't be fooled by the color of the inside of the basket. It will be white, but it will also be baked.
  • Now we put the braid on that tray, of course bent in a circle, which will be the edge of the basket. And it was baked quickly. All you have to do is, when everything has cooled down, attach the edge of the basket and then the handle with the help of 4 toothpicks. The handle has its flat ends, so it fits nicely.
  • And that would be it. The baking sheet was in use again, because I baked pastries from the rest of the dough and filled the basket.
