The place belongs to the historical area of Drimkol, and since ancient times the village has been called "Little Šumadija".

Histories are written and rewritten, as it is convenient for politics, and the monuments and works of great artists remain - as an indelible trace. And proof.

At Orište, more in the center of the village, there is a monument:

  • Pope Stojan Krstić died in 1890.
  • Pope Stavra Krstić died in 1904.

This old man has been standing proudly for about a hundred years, although no one pays attention to him anymore. Every drop of rain, every ray of sunshine, slowly erases these meritorious names. It's only a matter of time before it becomes just an unreadable stone.

Therefore, at least here, let there be some trace of it. Look and remember these people, these heroes. Eternal glory and thanks be to them!

And they are not the only residents of this place, there are many of them, born in Labunište, who deserve to be mentioned (order by date of burial):

  • Cvetko Jovanovic (Labuništa, 1862 — 1938) was a Serbian entrepreneur and philanthropist after whom the Belgrade settlement Cvetkova pijaca was named.
  • Anđelko Krstić, teacher and writer (Labuništa, 1871 - 1952) - Stories (book one, Belgrade, 1932); Trajan (novel, Skopje, 1932); Prisoners (drama, 1937) — premiered at the Skopje National Theater "King Alexander I" on September 12, 1937; ripovetke (book two, Belgrade, 1951); Memories (autobiographical records), Institute of Literature, Belgrade, 2000.
  • Ilija Ilic (Labuništa, 1879 – 1942) was a Thessaloniki volunteer and hero from the First World War, about whom Politika wrote on April 4, 1941.
  • Milisav Antonijević - Drimkolski (Labuništa, 1913-2001) was a teacher and educational inspector - Fires from Drimkol, short stories, 1956; Međa smrti, novel, 1958; Anger, novel, 1963; Lightning emerged from the lake, novel, 1979;

And they are not the only ones, but some of the most important. Today, hardly anyone remembers them, regardless of the greatness and importance of their lives and what they left behind.

My father Božidar was born in Labunište. And his father. And his father's father. I don't know any further. It was not conveyed to me. Unfortunately. Great-grandfather Ilija Ilić was a Thessaloniki volunteer. Holder of several awards. He traveled about 10.000 kilometers on foot and by train and 14.000 km by sea to reach the Thessaloniki front. And then, with the XXI Infantry Regiment of the Serbian Army, who knows how many - to drive the enemy out of the Motherland. His son, and my grandfather – Serafim Ilić, died in Bulgarian captivity, his legs were frozen. He suffered from gangrene of his legs and died relatively young. He never gave up his old identity card of the Kingdom of Yugoslavia and the surname Ilić. He called himself Srbenda Ilić.

The family house is no longer there... "It fell down," they say. There are no family documents. Ilija's documents are missing. Ilia has no decorations. "We don't know where he is." Maybe they are gone, but we remember that they were, that they existed. They will NOT be deleted… Labunište, the village I dream of...

PS Yes, lest I forget - the name of the place is not Labunishte, and even less Labunishta, but Labunishte.
