Mačvanski listići - Ana Vuletić - Recipes and Cookbook online

Sword leaves - they say that the leaves are originally a Mačva specialty. Since my husband is from Macvan, I also picked up the recipe from him. They are quick to prepare and can be eaten with sweet or savory toppings. They are soft for a long time even after they cool down, so they are practical. In Macva, everything is made in bulk, because you never know who will stop by for breakfast and coffee, but I will write down the measurements for the three of us, which comes out to approximately 20 pieces, depending on how you cut them.

Macva leaves, ingredients:

  • 500 g of flour
  • 200 ml of water
  • 50 ml milk
  • 1 egg
  • 1 teaspoon of salt
  • 2 teaspoons of baking powder
  • fat or oil (as needed)

Macva leaves, preparation:

  • Add egg, water, milk, salt and baking powder to half a measure of flour and beat with a whisk. Then add the rest of the flour and mix with your hands until you get a smooth dough.
  • Keep the flour with you as you will need it for sprinkling to prevent the dough from sticking.
  • When you place the dough in the bowl, sprinkle flour on the work surface and move the dough a little more, sprinkling flour as needed.
  • Roll out the dough to a thickness of 1 cm and cut into medium cubes or triangles.
  • Pour fat or oil into a deep pan and heat.
  • Take one cube at a time and spread it further with your hands (stretch it a little more) and put it in the hot oil. It takes about 10 seconds to complete. If necessary, turn to the other side (when the oil is shallower). The color should be pale yellow.
  • Serve with sweet or savory spreads.
  • Pleasant.
