Nine diabetes symptoms you shouldn't ignore

Oscar-winner Tom Hanks has said he was responsible for becoming diabetic, saying he was a total idiot who didn't take care of himself, his diet and his weight.

Hanks was diagnosed with type 2 diabetes three years ago, and it is believed that the weight fluctuations he had due to the films Exile and Philadelphia probably influenced the development of the disease.

"I'm part of the lazy American generation that is blindly partying and now stuck with ailments. I was heavy. You've seen me in the movies, you know what I looked like. I was a total idiot. I thought I could avoid it by taking the bread out of my cheeseburger. Well, it needs a lot more than that." Hanks, however, says doctors have told him he won't need to take insulin again if he can reach and maintain his desired weight and diet.

Type 90 diabetes accounts for about 2 percent of all diagnosed cases. The onset of type one is relatively sudden, and can be recognized by unexplained weight loss. Type XNUMX diabetes occurs when the body does not produce enough insulin to function properly or the body does not respond to insulin. Therefore, glucose remains in the blood and is not used as the body's fuel.

How can we recognize diabetes, and can it be recognized before it affects us? Here are nine symptoms that could indicate acquired diabetes:

1. Increased thirst

A sudden onset of thirst is one of the most obvious symptoms of type 2 diabetes. People may feel increased thirst for a short period of time, and this may be a sign of increased blood sugar, which stimulates the center in the brain that signals thirst.

2. Malaise

A non-specific but important symptom of type 2 diabetes is a general feeling of fatigue. Weakness can occur in the case of diabetes when the blood sugar level is low and there is not enough "fuel" for the cells. But because fatigue can be caused by many other conditions, such as anemia or depression, it is not the most reliable indicator of diabetes.

3. Poor nutrition

A constant improper diet can be a pathway to type 2 diabetes. This includes consuming many "wrong" sources of calories or smoking. Type 2 diabetes can also be caused by certain medications, as well as steroids.

4. Wide waist

If you are already obese at the age of 21, you are also at risk of developing diabetes. If your waistline has expanded in girth, that can also be an indicator.

5. Frequent urination

Although frequent urination is a sign of some infections, it can also be a symptom of diabetes, especially if it wakes you up at night and you also feel genital itching or infection. Excessive urination occurs when glucose "overflows" from the blood. Genital itching can be caused by candida infections, and if such infections occur often and persist, you should check your glucose.

6. Sedentary lifestyle

If your job requires you to sit all the time, and you don't regularly participate in any physical activity or hobby, you should also check your blood sugar.

7. Skin infections

If skin infections or wounds are slow to heal, this could be a symptom. This happens in part because blood cells that fight infection become less effective when glucose levels are high, so wounds take longer to heal.

8. Numbness and blurred vision

Periods of blurred vision can be an indicator of type 1 and type 2 diabetes, and attention should also be paid to occasional numb fingers.

9. Those susceptible to disease

You should be tested for type 2 diabetes if someone in your family has this disease. Also, people of Asian and Caribbean descent are four times more likely to develop diabetes than others.
