Experts predict an impressive global, social and economic impact of 5G, which will benefit the entire economy and society at large. 5G is expected to generate trillions in revenue in the coming years, and for sectors such as medicine and the automotive industry, 5G could literally represent a revolution.

The conference Confindustrije - Association of Italian Industrialists in Serbia,  called "5G and enabled technologies conference" about the 5G network and the technologies it enables were opened by Konfindustrije director Irena Brajović, Konfindustrije vice-president Romano Rossi, Italian ambassador Carlo Lo Caso, Minister of Innovation and Technological Development Nenad Popović and Belgrade mayor Zoran Radojicic.

Honorary guests of the 5G conference, which opened today in the ceremonial Hall of the City Assembly, spoke about the possibilities of the 5G network and its impact, as well as what is necessary for 5G to become a reality with a special focus on higher speed, lower latency and the ability to connect many more devices at the same time. Speakers agreed that as 5G advances, security will become an even greater need. Today's conference will also analyze the use of blockchain technology as a guarantee for privacy, transparency and security.

Mayor of Belgrade prof. Dr. Zoran Radojicic during the opening, he greeted the attendees with the following words: "The development of Belgrade in the direction of a smart city is our clear strategy, and the expansion of the 5G network is one of the key factors of functioning. New technologies are significant as an opportunity for the development of new jobs and new jobs in our cities. Radojičić said that Belgrade and Serbia strive to maintain the position of leaders in the region in the development of the digital economy and innovation and reminded that in June the first 5G base station in Serbia was put into operation in the Science and Technology Park in Belgrade, which is available to companies, entrepreneurs and to students of technical faculties for the development of various technological solutions. Projections are that in the next ten years, between 100.000 and 200.000 more inhabitants will live in Belgrade, so a system is needed that will be able to collect, process data and respond to needs in real time in a synchronized manner, and 5G is a very promising network," concluded Radojičić.

Minister for Innovation and Technological Progress Nenad Popović greeted the numerous participants of the conference and said that 5G technology will be the infrastructure for a new generation of technological innovations that will shape the world in the next decade, and that 5G will enable even faster data transmission, but also open new jobs and create the need for hiring the best engineers.

Ambassador of Italy Carlo Lo Caso pointed out that the presence of Minister Popović at the 5G conference shows the will of the Government of Serbia for cooperation with the Italian business community. "2019 is a very important year for bilateral relations between Serbia and Italy, because our two countries are celebrating 140 years of diplomatic relations and 10 years of strategic partnership between Italy and Serbia," the ambassador pointed out, adding that some applications based on 5G are already being tested in Italy technology in big cities like Rome, Milan, Turin and Naples. One of the pilot projects, called "BariMatera 5G", financed by the Ministry of Economic Development with more than sixty million euros, includes 52 public and private partners with the aim of making Bari and Matera two of the first "5G cities" in Europe. "That's why I'm especially happy that the city of Belgrade, which hosts this Konfindustrija conference, and the city of Niš are participating in this meeting today. In the not-so-distant future, Serbian and Italian cities will be even closer thanks to 5G technology," Ambassador Lo Caso concluded.

Vice President of Confindustria Romano Rossi said that he has great pleasure and honor to open this conference, the fourth in a series of annual "digital" conferences of Confindustria Serbia, which has already become an important tradition and a gathering that focuses every autumn on the digital revolution, a revolution that affects both our professional and private lives . "Konfindustrija started a series of events in 2016 that are focused on start-ups and young talents, which Serbia has in abundance. Then an event was organized, hosted by the extraordinary incubator of young talents, Science and Technology Park Zvezdara. "Last year, at the "digital" conference, Konfindustrija also dealt with the vitally important issue of cyber security," emphasized Rossi and welcomed the cooperation with prof. Dr. Dejan Drajić and thanked for the support of large telecommunications companies operating in Serbia, stressing that Telenor has already performed the first testing of the 5G network in Serbia, symbolically, in the Zvezdara technology park. Rossi added that today's conference will also discuss the future plans of Ericsson as well as new applications from Nokia, Telegroup and Asseco. The Deputy Mayor of the City of Turin, Marco Pironti, who is in charge of innovation and implementation of the smart city concept strategy, will speak about the aspect of 5G technology that has a very beneficial effect on the daily life of Italian cities, taking into account the experience from Turin, who will compare the Turin experience with the experience of Niš and Belgrade. in cooperation with Dragomir Petronijević, a member of the city council of the city of Belgrade.

The organization of this conference was sponsored by the Embassy of Italy and the City of Belgrade.

After the introductory speeches, there was a panel discussion entitled 5G: ecosystem and challenges of changing the 5G network in Serbia, moderated by Prof. Dr. Dejan Drajić, who spoke with Marko Jović, director of general affairs at VIP mobile, Piero Vučković, director of planning and technology strategy at Telenor, and Nemanja Ognjanović, manager of the basic and technological strategy department at Telekom Srbija.

The special guest of this Confindustria conference is Loretta Joseph, an advisor to numerous governments, international organizations and blockchain technology companies, including the OSCE and the OECD. In addition to numerous domestic experts and representatives of telecommunications operators, Giampaolo Fiorentino, member of the Board of Directors of the joint initiative of the European Commission and the European ICT industry "5G PPP" (5G Infrastructure Public Private Partnership), also spoke at the conference.
