Five thousandth visitor at the exhibition "So, you are that Uroš Predić?" - Zrenjanin National Museum

The exhibition "So, you are that Uroš Predić" was visited by the five thousandth visitor on Friday, January 26, 2018, in the afternoon. It was Emilija Balo, a student of the 8st-XNUMXth grade of the Zrenjanin high school, and she was presented with a gift package on that occasion.

To remind: Exhibition from the fund of the National Museum of Zrenjanin So you are that Uroš Predić? it was opened in the Salon of the Zrenjanin Museum on December 7, 2017, on the occasion of the 160th anniversary of the painter's birth.

Just one year after the painter's death, in 1954, the Zrenjanin National Museum received almost the entire inventory of Predić's Belgrade studio, which served as the basis for this exhibition, which consists of 32 works by Uroš Predić (paintings, drawings, studies), as well as sculptures and drawings works of other authors who represented this artist. Also, personal items, furniture, photographs, business cards, postcards, letters, decorations, diary, painting props and material, catalogs, books, magazines...

The life and work of Uroš Predić is presented in the form of thematic segments, from his schooling in his native Orlovat, through Pancevo, Vienna, his travels in Italy, and his return to his homeland until he finally moved to Belgrade, where he died in 1953. Also, Predić's work as an icon painter and portraitist, his relationship with family members, as well as with painters Paja Jovanović and Stevan Aleksić, and scientist Mihajlo Pupin, are particularly highlighted. The rich preserved correspondence allows us to see the contacts he had with his contemporaries, prominent individuals from political, cultural, economic and religious life.

The exhibition also presents children's drawings by Uroš Predić, which he made when he was between 10 and 12 years old, as well as the unfinished painting "Stoning of St. Stefana" which is considered his last work. For the first time, the drawings from which he made icons for Njegoš's chapel in Lovcen, which was demolished, are shown. One of Predić's most famous paintings "Vision in the Clouds" took a special place with a detailed interpretation of the painting with written explanations. A high school drawing by Mihajlo Pupin, a friend of Uroš since his early school days, was also presented at the exhibition. A special segment is dedicated to the relationship between Predić and Zrenjanin, from the first arrivals in that city as a child, through the great role model he had in the painter Konstantin Danilo from Bečkerek, and contacts with local friends and relatives, to the city's decision to name a street after him. This exhibition, organized on the occasion of the 160th anniversary of Uroš's birth, is an attempt for the Zrenjanin National Museum to point out once again not only the greatness of his importance, but also the inseparable relationship between a painter and a city, through a legacy that makes this institution both privileged and unique. when it comes to the life of Uroš Predić.

The author of the exhibition is senior curator-art historian Olivera Skoko. The sponsors of the project are the Ministry of Culture and Information of the Republic of Serbia and the company Gomex. During the duration of the exhibition, a rich supporting program was organized: workshops, lectures, promotions, concerts, and the exhibition will be open until February 28, 2018.
