Posna sarma - Vesna Pavlović - Recipes and Cookbook online

Meatless cabbage rolls.

Lean sarma, ingredients:

  • 1 large head of sauerkraut,
  • 3 heads of onion,
  • 2 cloves of garlic,
  • 300 g of rice,
  • 2 bay leaves,
  • 2 tablespoons sweet paprika,
  • 1 carrot,
  • 50 g of soy,
  • spices to taste (salt, pepper and dry herb seasoning),
  • oil if necessary.

Lenten sarma, preparation:

  • Prepare the cabbage leaves (separate them from the head).
  • Pour oil into a pan, add finely chopped onion, fry.
  • Then add grated carrot, fry.
  • Add chopped garlic, mix everything.
  • Drain the rice and strain, and put the soybeans in cold water, let it stand and when it swells, drain the excess water.
  • Add rice, soybeans to the pan with onions, season to taste (add salt, pepper and dry herbs). Stir in the sweet paprika and remove from heat. Mix everything so that all the ingredients are combined. Leave to cool.
  • Take a cabbage leaf (if it's big, divide it into two parts), put a spoonful of stuffing on it and wrap it in sarme.
  • Cover the bottom of the pot in which the sarma will be cooked with sauerkraut leaves and line up the wrapped sarma. Insert a bay leaf between the rows of sarmi. Cover the sarma with sauerkraut leaves, pour water and cook on moderate heat for about two hours.

Since we respect our religion and customs, and if the celebration falls on a Wednesday or Friday, we must fast and sarma prepared in this way is on our celebration table.
