Aware of this serious global problem, but also of its responsibility as one of the world leaders in wholesale trade, the METRO company launched a program in 2017 called METRO Water Initiative, in order to draw the attention of about 24 million customers and more than 150.000 employees worldwide to the problem of the scarcity of clean water and its responsible use. The main goal of the METRO Water Initiative is to initiate a series of partnerships and activities in communities around the world, so that this increasingly critical global situation can begin to be effectively addressed.

In addition to close cooperation with its suppliers at the local and global level, last year METRO also entered into a multi-year partnership with the international foundation One Drop, with the aim of significantly contributing to the strengthening and stability of this initiative.

In Serbia this year, in anticipation of World Water Day, METRO Cash & Carry, together with its partners - Henkel, Barilla, Wrigley, Mars, Rosa, Diageo and Oreo, conducted a series of educational and commercial activities aimed at helping solve this global problem. problems. One of them was an educational contest on the theme of World Water Day, the main goal of which was to spread awareness about the importance of water, but also to point out the problems that people around the world face due to the lack of this resource.

Continuous education of all community members that water is the driver and source of everything, including successful business, are part of the activities that will be implemented in the future. Raising awareness of the global scarcity of the basic source of life is only the first step in solving the problem, while comprehensive conservation as well as prevention and reduction of the level of pollution of water resources is what must be carried out by both individuals and companies and organizations of all sizes.
