Venčići - for all lovers of pies and dough dishes!

  • 500 g of soft flour
  • 30 g of fresh yeast
  • 1 teaspoon of sugar
  • 50 ml of oil
  • 2 dl of milk
  • 150 ml sour cream
  • 1 teaspoon of salt
  • 100 g of butter
  • 300 g of sunkarica (thin leaves)

Coating:

  • 1 piece of egg
  • sesame (or flax)
  1. Combine lukewarm milk, sugar, a teaspoon of flour and crumbled yeast in a deep bowl, mix well and leave to rise.
  2. Pour half of the flour into a mixing bowl, add the added yeast, oil, sour cream and salt.
  3. Then gradually add the remaining flour, kneading continuously until a smooth dough is obtained. Cover the kneaded dough with cling film and leave it to rise.
  4. It needs about 30 minutes in a warm place.
  5. Knead the resulting dough and divide it into smaller balls. I had 24 of them.
  6. Leave them to soak for 20 minutes.
  7. After that, thin out each ball with a rolling pin, spread it with softened butter and put a ham roll on it.
  8. With a round serrated knife, cut the ham together with the dough several times in the middle.
  9. Roll the dough prepared in this way, join the ends to form a wreath.
  10. Cover the pan with baking paper, then place the wreaths in it. Coat them with beaten egg and sprinkle with sesame or flax.
  11. Bake the wreaths in an oven heated to 200 degrees until they get a wonderful golden color.
