Christmas on the Thessaloniki front, 25.12.1917/XNUMX/XNUMX.

ORDER REV. 21432

COMMANDER-IN-CHIEF FOR THE ENTIRE ARMY

FOR DECEMBER 25, 1917 IN THESSALONIKI

HEROES

This year, too, we welcome the bright holidays of the Nativity of Christ and the New Year in war, outside our beloved Homeland; and this year we are forced to spend these festive days only in thoughts with our loved ones in the Motherland. The combination of opportunities did not allow us to win a victory over the enemy and return to our hearths in the year that is coming to an end. But it should be remembered that victory in this gigantic war can, with God's help, be won only with courage and unwavering perseverance and patience. And the Serb, whose legendary heroism, perseverance and patience is known all over the world, armed with these virtues and faith in God, in his power and the inexhaustible strength of his powerful Allies, knows how to wait for the moment of final victory!

The year we are saying goodbye brought to our midst a good number of our dear brothers from outside the Kingdom: Serbs, Croats, Slovenians and Czechs. They came to fight, side by side, with their dear brothers from the borders of the Kingdom of Serbia, rifle in hand and with their blood for the liberation and unification of our common beloved Motherland: Serbs, Croats and Slovenes, that ideal of our people. All together, have firm hope that, with God's help, we will achieve our lofty goal in the coming year and provide ourselves with all the benefits of peace and future development.

In that name, I greet you, heroes, with:
"CHRIST IS BORN" and "HAPPY NEW YEAR".

ALEXANDER sr
